Background
The Shire of Yarra Ranges is a large outer Melbourne municipality which mixes rural with urban life.
As part of the Shire's youth strategy, the council selected Datalink to re-design and re-develop the youth website to allow it to be content managed and make it appealing to young residents. An existing youth website divided the audiences of the website too strongly, causing problems with navigation. It also didn't feature local events and photos as prominently as desired.
Solution
Following consultation with the council, the theme of a "MySpace" / Social Networking / Web 2.0 look was selected for the website, with the aim of the design to engage the local young audience.
The website features a prominent events calendar, news, polls and media galleries, as well as integrated online forms and surveys.
The website is by non-technical council editors using Datalink's Freestyler
