RMIT website revamped

10 August 2007 - By Sean Fishlock

I heard RMIT had redesigned their website and checked it out.  My initial impression is that I am quite impressed ...

This project has been in the woks for some time, and a lot of thought and effort would have had to go into this site given the literally massive number of pages.

The redesign, subtly incorporates a new visual identity and colour scheme.  On the whole I think it works really well, introducing whitespace to give it a very clean, corporate, educational look.

Light text on dark backgrounds is never really a good idea on screen and it is good to see that the focus has been on the content and readability.

I really like the groupings of links on the homepage.  Profiled navigation and quick links make it easier to find information.  The global navigation features, such as the integrated site map and super-search help make the site easier to use.

The footer, which was once cluttered with information has been reduced a little, but still contains a lot of stuff.

A peek under the hood shows some real attention to detail in terms of accessibility and markup.

Overall the website is both clean and simple and the redesign is a great step forward for RMIT.
