How Australian youtube.com.au can boost your business

23 October 2007 - By Sean Fishlock

YouTube have announced an Australian version of the popular video sharing site, but how will that effect you and I ?

Well apparently, this will help push Australian content to the forefront and balance the content which is increasingly congested by the larger more populated economies like the United States.  YouTube is becoming a cultural mish mash, with very little localised content.  However localised versions have been released in other countries.

Regular blog readers would be familiar with our tips on using YouTube to grow your business.  The addition of localised content will no doubt introduce further opportunities for Australian organisations and businesses.

By enabling easier searching for locally produced content, it should give Australian productions more exposure and help Australian companies to achieve marketing goals more effectively through viral campaigns aimed at a local audience.

Just one example of how powerful YouTube can be is demostrated by the fact that some commentators are convinced that the next Federal election may well be decided by Youtube, and the 30,000+ people who in just 3 days have viewed Kevin Rudd's eating ear wax in Question Time video

A recent change to YouTube is the option to disable related videos, which was once a setting which required a technical change to be made by the person embedding the video into their site.   Related videos were potentially exposing competitors services and products, so this is a welcome addition to the service.

YouTube itself is becoming increasingly commercial and has to date resisted the sort of glaring advertisements which plagues media such as theage.com.au and heraldsun.com.au.  With any luck, YouTube will resist further commercialisation, and remain an excellent tool for personal and business promotion.
