Wyndham City Council New Look Website Launches

28 October 2009

A redesigned Wyndham City Council website, by Datalink has been launched.

Wyndham City Council represents a major metropolitan growth corridor of over 100,000 people between Melbourne and Geelong, which includes Werribee and Point Cook - one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria.

Datalink have been working with Wyndham since 2005 and recently the council selected Datalink to re-design and re-develop their corporate website with the aim of bringing it into 2009.

The new website design breaks the mould from previous redesigns with its new "Web 2.0" look.  Following the launch of a new look City of Boroondara website, Wyndham has similar features - prominent "slider" or slideshow enabling the important content to fit on a single page without much scrolling.

A prominent fly-out menu provides ease of navigation through thousands of webpages.

This also helps the site to achieve a clean look with a simple Google style search and despite these complex design features site has been rigorously accessibility tested which it has passed.

Freestyler content management provides a framework for a distributed model of website authoring, by enabling non-technical staff to contribute updates whichare approved before being activated.

One of the key new features is the "My Local Services" application.  When residents enter in their postcode, the My Local Services feature tells them their garbage collection days, local councillors and nearby facilities using Google Maps.  Behind the scenes this is achieved by integrating the council's Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and community databases using web services.

Bradley Hogan put much of the site together with overall project management from Scott Davey.
