Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement Site Launched

30 October 2009

A Datalink built website for the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement Website (grief.org.au) is launched.

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement is an independent, notfor profit organisation which opened in January 1996 and is the largestprovider of grief and bereavement education in Australia.

The Centre had an existing website which was built largely in house.  It had evolved to become unwieldy and difficult to manage without assistance.  The goal of the website redesign was to make it more appealing as well as easier to use and find information, particularly challenging given the site's very different audiences which include adults, adolescents - many in remote and disaster effected areas - as well as support and counselling professionals.

Datalink engaged with the Centre in an information architecture review process, producing wireframes and mockups before producing a simple and elegant design based on the organisation's visual identity.

The website is managed by a group of around ten or so non-technical authors using Freestyler CMS.

The website has some advanced functionality including an events calendar, mailing list (using Constant Contact), online donations (using OurCommunity) news as well as some Web 2.0 characteristics including RSS.

There are rotating banners to convey visual messages to the site audiences.

An online referral service is currently in development.

Datalink's Kevin Drew and Joanne Hocking putting the site together and overall project management by Sean Fishlock and Joanne Hocking.

The website can be viewed at www.grief.org.au
