City of Greater Bendigo signs up with Datalink

03 July 2009

The City of Greater Bendigo joins the list of rural councils using Datalink's Youth Portal.

Bendigo is Victoria's third largest regional council (after Geelong and Ballarat) and located in central Victoria with a population of over 100,000.   The latest statistics show that Bendigo and Ballarat are defying the sea change trend and posting significant population growth with many young families also moving to the area .  Bendigo becomes the second rural council after Alpine Shire to develop a Youth Portal.

City of Maroondah to get Youth Portal website

26 June 2009

The City of Maroondah is the latest local council to sign up for Datalink's Youth Portal.

The city (formerly the cities of Doncaster and Templestowe)  is located in Melbourne's eastern fringe, nestled at the foothills of Mount Dandenong and  situated adjacent to the Shire of Yarra Ranges (where another Youth Portal site services locals).   The city has a population of around 100,000 and many young people and some of the schools there include Maroondah Secondary, Parkwood Secondary, Ringwood Secondary, Heathmont College, Croydon Secondary, Norwood Secondary and Aquinas College.

The website has all the interactive features of a Youth Portal website and will achieve Level AA of Accessibility as well as being designed to be viewable on mobile phones.

Datalink very much looks forward to working with the City of Maroondah so stay tuned for more.

New Port Phillip Website - a step back ?

25 June 2009 - By Sean Fishlock

As a resident of the Port Phillip area and an Internet professional, I must express my disatisfaction in the new look City of Port Phillip council website (www.portphillip.vic.gov.au).

Visiting for the first time last week after being told of the recent redesign, I was initially excited, but a couple of clicks quickly turned to confusion and disappointment.  With a newly elected council I had expected better.

For starters, I use this website frequently and I was a fan of the old site.  Sure it was tiny on my larger screen, but that was a design flaw which could have been fairly easily fixed without a massive overhaul.  The services form used to be good.  It kind of fell off the rails and the "e-services" system became too complex a year ago and as a result, where once my queries were answered promptly, several of them were incorrectly redirected or not answered at all.

But overall the old website was traditional and easy to navigate and had a visual connection to the identity of the area.

Now lets look at the problems of the new site (pictured above) ...
